We Need Honesty and Integrity in our Leaders

I recently wrote our congressman, Jay Obernolte, about several issues, seeking to understand his positions. One of the things I mentioned was vaccines and their importance. I think I asked him what he was going to do about the disinformation being peddled by the Right leaning media. Congressman Obernolte's office responded by sending me a letter explaining his strong support for vaccination. He declared that he and his family were vaccinated and that he was doing all he can.

But something about this seemed fishy to me. I decided to run an experiment. I had my wife send a very different message to Representative Obernolte. She decried being forced to take a vaccine against her freedom. She declared that she had rights over her own body. I waited to see if she received the same letter.

My wife found a very different letter in her email. Hers showed how the congressman stood against OSHA mandating vaccination in the workplace. He was a champion for our freedoms.

I am sad to say that my experiment produced the results I expected. Mr. Obernolte is a politician who shapes his message to the perceived desires of those he is talking to. This displays a lack of credibility and integrity.

We need to be careful with the messages given by our politicians. We cannot put our trust in them. Trust belongs to God alone. We have many politicians who know what is right and true, but they also know that tickling the ears of their constituents gets them more money and security in their jobs. And so they are willing to put up their fingers and see where the wind is blowing.

Sadly, we have very few profiles of courage in today's leadership.
